Our coaches can offer group and one-to-one coaching, as well as coaching during curriculum time, depending on availability, and in after school clubs.

Meet Our Coaches
Vance Young
Coach Part 2, UKCC Level 2
Vance Young is one of our regular senior coaches at Medway Junior Badminton. He has coached at Castlemaine Hall for over 10 years, is qualified to Coach Part 2, UKCC Level 2 and in the process of completing his UKCC Level 3. Vance has an Enhanced DBS check and is First Aid qualified.
During the week Vance coaches individuals and small groups by personal arrangement. Many of the juniors he coaches are also involved in Kent Badminton at county junior level. These are currently: Amy Spring, Rhianna White, Alex Davies, Elleanor Burns, Hannah Spring (U17), Matthew Whetton (U17), and Zahra Bhatti (U17)
Vance has also coached several senior players to County standard, namely Craig Spooner, Daniel Groom, and Emma Smethurst all of whom have played for the First Team; Lawrence Nemestothy for the Second Team and Neel Clements and Martin Woolley for the Third Team.
Hilary Athawes
UKCC Level 2 Badminton England Coach
Hilary is a UKCC Level 2 Badminton England Coach, a qualified BISI coach and an Essentials coach. As a full member of BE’s Coaching Register she possesses full public and professional indemnity insurance. Hilary also has an Enhanced DBS check and is First Aid qualified.
Hilary coaches an NHS Tipping the Balance group on Tuesday mornings and coaches in primary and secondary schools both during curriculum time and in after school clubs. She regularly coaches at Medway Junior Badminton on Saturdays and associates with the sports team at Medway Council to promote badminton events.
